What is CSCS?

CSCS is the UK construction industry’s leading skills certification scheme that verifies construction workers skills and training. If you have a CSCS card, then you have proof that you are qualified and sufficiently trained to do the job.

What cards are on offer?

Labourer card (Green)

  • Aimed towards Site Operatives/Labourers, this card is valid for 5 years.
  • Renewable after the 5 years.
  • You need to have completed the CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply.
  • You also need to attend and pass a 1-day CITB Health & Safety Awareness training course or equivalent. Please visit the uk.com/card-type/labourer/ for the full list of courses that are accepted.

Provisional card (Red)

  • This card is suitable to those who are working through probationary periods and have never held a CSCS card before.
  • This card is valid for 6 months and is not renewable.
  • You need to have completed the CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply.

Skills Worker card (Blue)

  • This card is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
  • You can apply for this card is you have either achieved a construction related qualification (NVQ or SVQ) at level 2 or completed an apprenticeship.
  • You also need to have completed the CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply.

 Advanced Craft Card (Gold)

  • This card is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
  • You can apply for this card if you have either achieved a construction related NVQ or SVQ at level 3 and apprenticeship.
  • You also need to have completed the CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply.

Supervisory card (Gold)

  • This card is available for supervisor and technical occupations.
  • This card is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
  • You can apply for this card if you have achieved a construction related supervisory/technical NVQ or SVQ at level 3 or 4.
  • You also need to have completed the CITB Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply.

Manager card (Black)

  • This card is available for manager and technical occupations.
  • This card is valid for 5 years and is renewable.
  • You can apply for this card if you have achieved a construction Management/Technical related NVQ or SVQ at level 4, 5, 6 or 7.
  • You also need to have completed the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years to apply.

How do I apply?

All applications need to go directly through CSCS either by phone, email or online.

Please make sure to have all relevant documents, student numbers and personal details to hand as CSCS will request a majority of this information.

 How Much Does a CSCS Card Cost?

It costs £30 to get your CSCS card, so try not to lose it.

There are also costs for the various Health, Safety and Environment tests you need to take, however these vary so please check this with your provider.
